Frank lying in a hospital bed with big, square plasters on him – one in the crook of his arm, one on his hand.

I had an X-ray of my foot done while I was there. When the doctor saw how I’d broken my leg, he told me I had to have an operation. I had to lie in a bed, and they put anaesthetic plasters on my hand and in the crook of my arm. I needed these plasters because they wanted to put a little tube in one of my blood vessels, a vein. They were going to give me medicine through that so that my leg didn’t hurt as much, and they wanted to give me an anaesthetic so that I’d be asleep during my operation.
